Στο παρακάτω κείμενο υπάρχει η πρόταση μιας ομάδας -International Coalition to Protect the Polish Countryside, Poland- για τρόπο αντίδρασης και ελάχιστης επιρροής στο ρόλο που πάει να παίξει η Επιτροπή Γεωργίας.

Πέρα από όποια κριτική για τον τρόπο αυτής της δράσης, η συμμετοχή σ' αυτή τη κίνηση μάλλον δεν στερείται νοήματος.

Dear friends,

We have sent a letter, with questions, to all members of the

European Parliament Agricultural Committee in order to hold them

individually accountable for unashamedly promoting the GM corporate agenda.

WE ARE URGENTLY ASKING YOU TO JOIN US IN THIS VITAL ACTION

So read on...

The action specifically concerns "Motion for a European Parliament

Resolution on Biotechnology: Prospects and Challenges for Agriculture in

Europe (2006/2005 (INI) which is totally dedicated to promoting GMO in

Europe.

This 'Motion', can be found on http://www.icppc.pl/gmo/635387en.pdf . It has

had it's first reading in the Agricultural Committee and only Mr Wojciechowski

(the Vice Chairman, Polish) demanded complete rejection of this document,

clearly representing his constituents feelings.

Now, on the 19th December 2006, the Motion will get a final reading by the

Agricultural Committee giving another opportunity for it's rejection before

going on to a plenary session of the European Parliament in early January.

MEPs ARE ELECTED TO SERVE OUR INTERESTS and must be held accountable for

their actions. If we don't put big pressure on them now, they will surely

capitulate to the corporate GM buy-out.

It is two minutes to midnight to save our countryside and food from

irreparable genetic contamination.

WE THEREFORE REQUEST YOU TO HELP US BY:

1. Writing to, or calling, MEPs from the Agricultural Committee and

demanding that

they respond a.s.a.p. to the questions in ICPPC's letter.

List of MEPs from the EP Agricultural Committee:

http://www.europarl.europa.eu/activities/expert/committees/allMembers.do?committee=1244&language=EN

2. Sending us copies of any responses you receive.

We are going to publish these responses on our web site www.gmo.icppc.pl

(http://icppc.pl/pl/gmo/eng_index.php?id=eng_eu ) and

other European activists will be doing the same on their webs.

Then a picture of the Agricultural Committee's position will be publicly

visible for all who care to see it.

We do urge you to take this chance to positively influence our future!

With greetings,

Julian Rose and Jadwiga Lopata

*************READY LETTER**********************

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am deeply concerned about the Agricultural Committee's debate on the
future of GMO.
We will all be affected by the decisions to be made as an outcome of this
debate, which is
why I am now writing to request your answer to the questions in the below
letter.
I look forward to receiving your response.

1. How many of your constituents asked you to support the increase of
GMO in European agriculture and food?

2. In what respect are science based decisions on GMO meeting European
citizens' needs better than public opinion based decisions?

3. What independent analysis have you read:

a) showing European competitiveness criteria will be better met by
biotechnologies' prospects?

b) concerning the mid-term and long-term performance of GMO and their
effects on other crops, the environment and human/animal health?

4. Do you support the "coexistence" of GM and non GM crops?

5. What evidence do you have that genetically modified organisms will
not cross contaminate other crops/plants in, and beyond, the area in
which they are planted?

6. What steps are you recommending to farmers whose crops become
contaminated by genetically modified organisms?

7. Will you support the rejection of the MOTION FOR A EUROPEAN
PARLIAMENT RESOLUTION on Biotechnology: Prospects and Challenges for
Agriculture in Europe (2006/2005 (INI) ) ?

8. Will you support calls for a ten year GMO moratorium?

9. Are you ready to take personal responsibility for letting GMO be
introduced into the environment?

Thank you!
